The Gene Haas Foundation to Provide Scholarships to Educators

1/2 Off Training Cost for the First 30 HTEC Teachers that Enroll

The Gene Haas Foundation has generously provided scholarship funding in the amount of $20,250.00. The scholarships will be awarded to the first 30 HTEC teachers that enroll in the new CNC training courses at the Vincennes University HTEC CNC Training Center. To qualify for the 1/2 off tuition scholarship, which represents a $675.00 value, teachers just need to be employed as an educator at a member HTEC school. The training courses are open to anyone from industry, or to teachers from any school or training center, but this particular scholarship is only for educators from HTEC member school . . .

Flying-S Aerospace manufacturing engineer Peter Bowman, and Flying-S CNC machinists Ben Parrish and Jacob Bowman, teamed up to present the first "Super CNC Saturdays" class in the new VU HTEC lab. The four hour class covered "The Art of Machining Titanium". Three of those hours were spent in a classroom setting with a multimedia presentation, with an additional hour spent cutting chips on the Haas EC-400 and the VM-3 machining centers. Using some of the latest tooling available, namely the Sandvik CoroMill 210 and CoroMill 316 cutters, and machining data from the HTEC industry partner, Peter . . .

Dosatron Brings Water Powered Dosing Technology to VU HTEC

Dosatron USA, headquartered in Clearwater, Florida, manufacturer of water powered dosing equipment, has become the latest Vincennes University HTEC partner. According to Doug Bowman, VU HTEC Director, "the Dosatron unit provides a very 'clean and lean' system for maintaning the proper concentrations in our Wallover water-based metalworking fluids. We have 13 Haas CNC machining centers to maintain, and the sytem is super easy to use and very accurate. A big thank you to Craig Peterson, and all of the folks at Dosatron USA!"

Vincennes University was once again an exhibitor at the International Motorsports Industry Show. 2010 marked the second year for the hard core racing trade show, and the second time that VU has participated as well. Over 570 exhibitors were on hand for the three day show, including VU's HTEC partners Haas Automation, represented by HFO Midwest, and Mastercam, represented by CAD/CAM Technologies. Attendance at the show was very good. The VU booth was a joint effort between the faculty and students in the third year Advanced Manufacturing program, and the VU HTEC Training Center. First Class! Renishaw Ball Bar Training in New VU HTEC

On November 10th Vincennes University hosted its first day long training class in the brand new Haas Technical Education Center (HTEC) training lab. Dan Skulan of Renishaw, and Mike Clodfelter of Clodfelter Engineering teamed up to provide some great metrology and ball bar training. The class was attended by employees from nearby Aerospace company Flying-S, as well as VU staff members, and student/intern Mark Stockhover. Using a ball bar set recently donated to VU by industrial partner Renishaw, Inc., and one provided by Mr. Clodfelter, the group was able to perform several tests for accurac . . .

The Grand Opening of the VU HTEC Teacher Training took place on October 27, 2010. The event was very well attended with more than 250 educators, manufacturers, partners, students, and state and local officials on hand. There were many talks given by well known industry representatives on the importance of excellence in technical education. One of these was given by Penny DiCarlo of the Association for Manufacturing Technology , or AMT. Penny outlined the "Manufacturing Mandate" which is a movement calling for a federal policy of collaboration between government, industry and academia to buil . . .
